This artwork for the second album of the “LABORATORIO” series started again as an idea between Oliver Castillo and me.

His vision about a mad scientist that experiment with bugs to improve his humanity, went beyond, so his mutation and lab chaos is clear.

As the first album, I continued the cover artwork concept as pencil lines in the back.

Los Carpinteros

This time I was asked to do a cover art for the punk-rock band LOS CARPINTEROS.

The main concept was around their band mascot, a junkie parrot being captured by the military police, under sedation responding for all the riot he caused because of his drug abuse.

The Sketch

Starting from that idea of the riot, I put the main character in the middle of a street, surrounded by military cops, with a strait jacket on and entering an ambulance.

The Artwork

Once I put the sketch on Adobe Illustrator, I began to work in drawing each single object, at first in merely plain vectors, after that I will get onto the detailings, lights and shadows.

This artwork start as an idea between Oliver Castillo and I. He has this vision about a mad scientist that experiment with bugs to improve his humanity, like Spider Man’s Dr. Connors. So I got the whole picture and began sketching to get the drawing approved at once.

The best part of this is to develop the artwork in a way I don’t usually do: the use of constant thin lines, and a low saturation color palette as the ones I’m use to do (over-saturated with bright colors).

I apply the same concept to design the CD album package in a 2 panel packaging.

This is my very first rough sketch to just set up everything on the paper.

Flesh N’ Bones

The local band asked me to design a 2 albums with a split cover that has continuity between them. This illustration needed to be thought as two covers, the first half with a rock n roll skull and the second one with a devil.

I began with the rough sketch for the composition, then I refine the pencil sketch to show the band the layout. Finally I have the artwork inked, digitized and vector colored.
